Day 6 – The Islands of the Venetian Lagoon
Murano, Burano & Torcello
Today, you'll leave the bustle of central Venice behind and venture into the beautiful islands of the Venetian Lagoon. This is a day to slow down, wander, and experience a quieter side of Venice.
We've left the day flexible so you can choose the islands that appeal to you most. You might spend the day on just one or two islands, or, if you're feeling adventurous, visit all three. The islands are connected by the local vaporetto, and we'll provide detailed directions and schedules so navigating between them is easy.
Your first possibility is Murano, famous throughout the world for its centuries-old tradition of Venetian glassmaking. You can visit a traditional glass workshop and watch skilled artisans transform molten glass into beautiful works of art. Afterward, take some time to explore Murano's quieter canals, small shops, and waterfront.
Or perhaps Burano is calling your name. This enchanting island is famous for its brilliantly colored houses, which line the canals in a rainbow of colors. Wander through the narrow streets, discover the island's traditional lace-making heritage, and stop for lunch at one of the local restaurants.
For those who want to experience something truly atmospheric, continue on to Torcello. The quietest and most rural of the three islands, Torcello feels worlds away from Venice. Here you'll find peaceful green paths, ancient ruins, and the remarkable Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, known for its beautiful Byzantine mosaics.
If you'd like to make a full day of it, visiting Murano, Burano, and Torcello makes a wonderful island-hopping adventure. Alternatively, choose the one or two islands that most appeal to you and enjoy a more leisurely day.
We'll provide our favorite lunch recommendations. As always, the day is yours to explore at your own pace.

Day 7 – A Day to Simply Enjoy Venice
Leisure, Wandering & Your Last Taste of La Serenissima
Today is intentionally different. After several wonderful days of sightseeing, this is your day to sleep in, linger over breakfast, savor a morning coffee, and enjoy Venice without a schedule.
There is nowhere you have to be and nothing you have to check off a list. This is the day to simply enjoy the city you've come to know.
Perhaps you'll spend a lazy morning with a cappuccino and a pastry before wandering out to discover some of the things you haven't yet seen. You might explore the Dorsoduro neighborhood, one of our favorite areas of Venice, where you'll find beautiful canals, art galleries, quiet squares, and a more local atmosphere.
Or perhaps visit the magnificent Santa Maria della Salute, one of Venice's most recognizable churches, or explore the fascinating Scuola Grande di San Rocco, known for its extraordinary Tintoretto paintings.
If art appeals to you, today could be the perfect time to visit the Peggy Guggenheim Collection if you didn't choose it earlier in your journey.
Or perhaps you'd rather simply wander through the smaller streets, browse Venetian artisan shops, and search for that perfect souvenir.
And then there's the possibility of doing absolutely nothing.
Find a beautiful café, order a glass of wine, watch the gondolas glide by, and let Venice entertain you. Stop for cicchetti at a neighborhood bacaro, linger over lunch, enjoy an afternoon aperitivo, and simply follow the streets wherever they lead.
Perhaps today is the day for your gondola ride. We can arrange a private or shared gondola experience for you, depending on what you'd prefer. Or, if you'd like something especially memorable, we can help arrange a sunset or evening ride.
For your final evening in Venice, you might choose a special dinner at another favorite local restaurant. We'll be happy to provide recommendations and arrange reservations based on the type of experience you're looking for.
Throughout the day, we'll be on hand to help you make the most of your free time. If you'd like to add an activity, make a reservation, arrange a gondola ride, find a special restaurant, or simply get our advice on what to do, we're here to help. Any optional activities or meals are at your own expense.

Day 9— Padua
Giotto, Saints & the Soul of an Italian City
Your journey today takes you from Venice to Padua (37 minutes by comfortable train ride), one of northern Italy’s most fascinating and authentic cities. The fast train makes the trip remarkably easy—just about 30 minutes from Venice—yet Padua feels worlds away from the bustle of Venice.
We will have a local private guide that will take you around this marvelous city. You will begin with the extraordinary Scrovegni Chapel, home to Giotto’s revolutionary fresco cycle. Created in the early 1300s, these paintings are considered among the great masterpieces of Western art and changed the course of European painting. Your visit continues through Padua’s historic center, where elegant arcades, lively markets and centuries-old cafés reveal the character of this university city.
A Day of Art, History & Italian Life
You will continue to explore the magnificent Basilica of Saint Anthony, with your guide, one of Italy’s most important pilgrimage churches, then wander through Padua’s beautiful squares and arcaded streets. Along the way, you’ll encounter bustling food markets, historic buildings and the lively atmosphere created by the city’s ancient university.
Your guide will end your tour at the Prato della Valle, an enormous elliptical piazza surrounded by statues and waterways—one of the most spectacular public squares in Italy.
Rather than simply checking another famous city off your list, Padua gives you the opportunity to experience real Italian city life, extraordinary art and centuries of history without the crowds of Venice.

Day 10 — Venice: A Final Day of Discovery
Today is your chance to slow down and enjoy one more wonderful day in Venice—returning to places you loved, discovering the corners you haven’t yet seen, and experiencing a few of the city’s iconic treasures.
Maybe you did not get to the Teatro La Fenice yet, Venice’s legendary opera house. Beautifully restored after a devastating fire, La Fenice remains one of Europe’s most celebrated theaters and offers a fascinating glimpse into Venice’s musical and cultural history.
Or maybe you would like to step into the world of modern art at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, housed in her former palazzo along the Grand Canal. The collection includes works by Picasso, Dalí, Magritte, Pollock and other masters of 20th-century art.
For a completely different perspective, you might like to rise above the rooftops by climbing the Campanile di San Marco. From the top, Venice unfolds beneath you—domes, canals, terracotta rooftops and the shimmering lagoon stretching toward the horizon.
And, of course, there is perhaps no better way to experience Venice than from the water. Set out on a private gondola ride, gliding quietly through the canals and beneath Venice’s graceful bridges. Away from the busy streets, you’ll see a more intimate side of the city.
Whether you choose to wander, shop, linger over lunch in a sunny piazza, or simply get wonderfully lost in Venice’s maze of streets, we will help you make it happen by getting you skip the line tickets where needed (costs on you). It is a final opportunity to savor La Serenissima before continuing your Italian adventure.
