At the Crossroads of Civilizations: Arrival in Istanbul
Istanbul is the inspiring beginning of our journey through Turkey—a city where, for more than 2,500 years, East has met West. Once known as Byzantium and Constantinople, this legendary crossroads has been shaped by emperors, sultans, traders, and travelers from across the world, leaving behind a layered history unlike anywhere else on earth.
We’ll gather on the rooftop of our boutique hotel, perfectly situated in the historic heart of Istanbul, to toast the start of our adventure. With a welcome drink in hand, we’ll sample some of Turkey’s favorite olives and local flavors as we gaze out over a skyline pierced by elegant minarets and glowing domes—an unforgettable first impression of the city.
We’ll take time for introductions before heading out together to a traditional meyhane (taverna). Here, we’ll enjoy our first meal as a group, sharing classic Turkish dishes in a warm, lively setting that reflects Istanbul’s deep-rooted culture of hospitality.
This evening sets the tone for the journey ahead: immersive, flavorful, and deeply connected to place.

Istanbul Unveiled: Empires, Mosques, and the Spice of Two Continents
We set out early this morning to explore Istanbul, the only city in the world that spans two continents—Europe and Asia—divided by the legendary Bosphorus Strait. Today is a deep dive into the city’s imperial past and vibrant present.
Our tour begins at the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia, crowned by its massive dome and adorned with extraordinary mosaics. As we stand beneath its soaring interior, we’ll trace its remarkable journey through history—from Byzantine church to Ottoman mosque, and today, one of the most significant monuments in the world.
Next, we visit the elegant Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmed Mosque), one of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks. Famous for its six minarets and exquisite blue İznik tiles, it remains an active place of worship and a powerful symbol of the city’s Ottoman heritage.
We’ll pause for lunch, and we’ll be happy to point you toward some of the best spots nearby for traditional Turkish kebabs—simple, flavorful, and unforgettable.
In the afternoon, we wander through the fragrant lanes of the Spice Bazaar, a sensory feast of colors, aromas, and tastes. It’s the perfect place to pick up saffron, Turkish delight, teas, and other treasures to bring a bit of Turkey home with you.
For the evening, we’ll share excellent dinner recommendations ranging from cozy local favorites to refined dining, and we’re happy to help secure reservations if you wish.

Imperial Istanbul: Palaces, Bazaars, and Two Continents
After breakfast, we will walk together through the historic heart of Istanbul to Topkapi Palace, the former imperial residence and administrative center of the Ottoman Empire for nearly four centuries (15th–19th centuries). Built shortly after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in 1453 by Sultan Mehmed II, the palace served not only as the home of the sultans but also as the seat of government, where state affairs, diplomatic receptions, and court ceremonies shaped the empire that once spanned three continents. Within its courtyards and pavilions, we will encounter exquisite examples of Ottoman architecture, sacred relics, imperial treasures, and stories of palace life that illuminate the power, intrigue, and cultural sophistication of the Ottoman court.
Following our visit, we will make our way to the legendary Grand Bazaar, one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world. Established in the 15th century and continuously expanded over time, the bazaar contains more than sixty streets and approximately four thousand shops, traditionally organized by trade guilds. For centuries it has been the commercial heart of Istanbul, where merchants from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East exchanged silk, spices, jewelry, ceramics, carpets, and precious metals. Today it remains a vibrant blend of history, craftsmanship, and daily life.
Lunch will be at your leisure, allowing you to explore local cafés or restaurants at your own pace. In the afternoon, you may continue shopping, relax, or choose from a range of optional experiences, such as a cruise along the Golden Horn, the historic inlet that protected the city’s harbors and shipyards, or a visit to a traditional hammam (Turkish bath)—a ritual rooted in Roman and Ottoman bathing culture that has been part of Istanbul life for centuries.
In the early evening, we recommend crossing the Bosphorus Strait by ferry to the Asian side of Istanbul, a journey that offers unforgettable views of the city’s skyline, mosques, palaces, and waterfront mansions. Dining on the Asian shore provides a different perspective on Istanbul’s culture and pace of life, along with a memorable setting for a special dinner before returning to Europe by water under the city lights.

Day 4 -
Crossing the Dardanelles: Reflection, Sea, and Sanctuary
We depart Istanbul this morning and journey west toward the legendary Dardanelles, crossing the narrow strait that has linked—and divided—continents, empires, and cultures for millennia. This strategic waterway has played a crucial role in history from ancient Troy to the modern era, and today it leads us to one of the most moving landscapes in Turkey.
Our destination is the Gallipoli Peninsula, where Allied forces and the Ottoman Turks clashed during World War I in a campaign whose legacy still resonates deeply, particularly for Turkey, Australia, and New Zealand. As we explore this remarkably beautiful coastline, we’ll visit key memorials and cemeteries that quietly dot the hillsides, offering moments of reflection amid sweeping views of the sea. The contrast between the area’s natural beauty and its solemn history is both powerful and unforgettable.
After our visit, we’ll stop at a relaxed seaside restaurant, where there’s time to enjoy lunch, breathe in the sea air, and—if you wish—dip your feet into the clear waters of the Aegean Sea, a symbolic transition from mainland Turkey to island life.
From here, we continue on to the charming island of Bozcaada, formerly known as Tenedos, an island with ancient roots stretching back to Greek mythology and the Trojan War. Known for its stone houses, vineyards, and laid-back pace, Bozcaada feels a world away from the bustle of Istanbul.
Upon arrival, we’ll check in to our hotel and set out on a gentle discovery walk through the island’s small town. We’ll explore its narrow streets, historic neighborhoods, and waterfront promenade, getting our bearings and soaking up the relaxed island atmosphere.
Later in the evening, join us for dinner together, where we’ll enjoy local island specialties—fresh seafood, seasonal vegetables, and regional wines that reflect Bozcaada long winemaking tradition.

Where Legend Meets the Aegean: Troy to Bozcaada
We rise early and travel by ferry to the site of ancient Troy, entering a landscape that for centuries existed only in myth and epic poetry. Immortalized in Homer’s Iliad, Troy was long considered a legendary city—until 1871, when the passionate and controversial amateur archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann began excavations here. Guided by Homer’s texts, Schliemann uncovered multiple layers of settlement, revealing that Troy was not a single city but a succession of civilizations built one atop another over more than three thousand years.
Among his discoveries was the so-called “Treasure of Priam,” a collection of gold and precious objects that sparked international fascination and enduring scholarly debate. While Schliemann’s methods were crude by modern archaeological standards and many of his conclusions remain contested, his work forever changed our understanding of Troy and demonstrated that legend and history can intersect in powerful ways. With an expert local guide, we will explore the archaeological site, walking through its defensive walls, gates, and ruins while discussing the layers of Troy, the Bronze Age world of the eastern Mediterranean, and the ongoing debate over the historical reality of the Trojan War.
After our visit, we continue by ferry to the charming island of Bozcaada (ancient Tenedos), a place known since antiquity for its strategic location, wine production, and maritime history. Once mentioned by Homer himself, the island later became a prized outpost for Greeks, Venetians, Genoese, and Ottomans. Upon arrival, you will have time to stroll along the picturesque seaside quay, enjoy views of fishing boats and cafés, and soak in the relaxed Aegean atmosphere of this beautiful island.

Day 7 –
Troy’s Hinterland to Pergamon
After a short ferry crossing, we step into the ancient world at Alexandria Troas, a once-great harbor city founded around 300 B.C. by Antigonos Monophthalmos, one of Alexander the Great’s most powerful generals. Later favored by Roman emperors, Alexandria Troas became a major port linking Asia Minor with the Aegean and mainland Greece. As we wander through the extensive ruins, you’ll see remnants of massive city walls, bath complexes, a stadium, and colonnaded streets—testimony to a city that once rivaled Ephesus in importance. The Apostle Paul passed through here multiple times, adding an important layer of early Christian history to the site.
We then continue south to Assos, one of the most atmospheric and best-preserved historic villages in the region. Built of dark volcanic stone, Assos rises dramatically above the sea and was once home to Aristotle, who lived and taught here in the 4th century B.C. Climbing to the Acropolis, we visit the Temple of Athena, dating to the 6th century B.C., spectacularly positioned on a cliff overlooking the Aegean. From this vantage point, we enjoy sweeping views across the water to the Greek island of Lesvos, a sight little changed since antiquity.
After a relaxed late lunch, we travel inland to Bergama, modern-day Pergamon, regarded in antiquity as one of the most beautiful and cultured cities of the ancient world. Once the capital of the powerful Attalid Kingdom, Pergamon was renowned for its grand architecture, medical center, and its legendary library—second only to Alexandria’s. Upon arrival, we enjoy an orientation walk to get acquainted with the town before gathering for dinner together, reflecting on a day rich in history, philosophy, and spectacular landscapes.
We settle in for the night in Bergama.

From Ancient Ionia to the Sacred Hills of Ephesus
This morning we depart for İzmir, Turkey’s vibrant third-largest city and the gateway to ancient Ionia, where Greek, Roman, and early Christian worlds intertwined. Built atop ancient Smyrna, İzmir has been a thriving port for over 2,500 years. We explore the remarkably preserved Agora, once the city’s political and commercial heart, where colonnaded walkways, arches, and inscriptions reveal daily life in a great Roman metropolis.
After our visit, enjoy lunch on your own, choosing from İzmir’s lively cafés and waterfront eateries—an ideal moment to soak in the city’s relaxed Aegean atmosphere.
In the afternoon, we continue south to the charming town of Selçuk, set among rolling hills and orchards and steeped in early Christian history. Selçuk is traditionally recognized as the burial place of St. John the Evangelist, who spent his final years here. We visit the evocative Basilica of St. John, built by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century over what is believed to be the apostle’s tomb. From the basilica, sweeping views stretch across the valley toward the ruins of Ephesus.
Nearby, we ascend to the serene House of the Virgin Mary, a place of pilgrimage for Christians and Muslims alike. According to tradition, Mary spent her final years here under the care of St. John. The peaceful setting, surrounded by forested hills, offers a moment of quiet reflection before we return to Selçuk.
After checking into our hotel, we gather in the evening for dinner at a special local spot, where regional flavors and warm hospitality provide the perfect close to a day rich in history and meaning.

Pamukkale & Hierapolis: Nature and Antiquity Intertwined
We begin with an early breakfast before setting out on a scenic drive to Pamukkale, famously known as the “Cotton Cliffs.” Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this breathtaking natural wonder has been formed over thousands of years by mineral-rich thermal waters cascading down the hillside, leaving behind brilliant white travertine terraces. The effect is otherworldly—part landscape, part dream.
Along the way, we make several pleasant stops to break up the journey, including time for lunch on your own at a local spot. Upon arrival in Pamukkale, you’ll check into our hotel and have time to relax in the thermal hot spring pool, enjoying the same warm, mineral waters that have drawn visitors here since antiquity.
Later in the afternoon, we head out together to explore the site itself. In addition to walking the travertine terraces, we visit the extensive ruins of Hierapolis, the ancient Greco-Roman spa city built alongside the springs. Once a major healing center, Hierapolis features a well-preserved theater, impressive Roman baths, and the remains of an early Christian basilica, reflecting the city’s continued importance into the Byzantine period. As the light softens toward evening, the landscape takes on a golden glow—an unforgettable moment.
Later tonight we have our farewell dinner celebrating the land that is Turkey: full of natural beauty, ancient history, good food and wonderful people.
Overnight in Pamukkale.

Day 1 – (AddOn+)
Cappadocia Extension | Into the Spiritual Heart of Anatolia
While some travelers depart for the airport today, others continue onward—leaving the familiar and venturing into the hinterlands of Turkey, where landscapes widen and the country’s spiritual heart reveals itself.
We journey into central Anatolia, traveling to the historic city of Konya, a place of profound religious and philosophical significance. For more than 800 years, Konya has been the spiritual home of the Whirling Dervishes, members of the Mevlevi Sufi order whose mesmerizing ritual dance expresses devotion, love, and unity with the divine. This is one of Turkey’s most revered religious centers and remains a place of active worship and pilgrimage.
Upon arrival, we visit the Mevlana Museum, one of the most important spiritual sites in the Islamic world. The museum complex shelters the tomb of Jelaleddin Rumi—poet, mystic, and philosopher—whose teachings on love, tolerance, and the soul have transcended time, religion, and borders. Considered one of the greatest spiritual thinkers in history, Rumi’s words continue to resonate across cultures, inviting reflection and inner stillness.
We stop for lunch on your own en route, then check into our hotel in Konya. In the evening, we come together for dinner, sharing a meal in a city where tradition and faith remain deeply woven into daily life.
Overnight in Konya.
Please note: Konya is a religious city, and alcohol is not served at dinner this evening out of respect for local observances. Guests may, however, enjoy alcohol privately in their hotel rooms if they wish. This applies only in this town: the rest of Turkey you can enjoy wines, beers, and cocktails.

Cappadocia from Above and Within
Before dawn, for those who choose to participate, we rise early for an unforgettable hot-air balloon flight over Cappadocia—an experience found nowhere else in the world. As the sun lifts over the horizon, hundreds of balloons drift silently above valleys, fairy chimneys, and ancient cave dwellings, revealing the full magic of this extraordinary landscape. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment and, for many, the highlight of the entire journey.
After returning to solid ground, we regroup for breakfast before setting out on a guided exploration of Cappadocia National Park, part of the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Göreme and Rock Sites of Cappadocia. Our tour takes us through a series of remarkable valleys and rock formations, where soft volcanic stone has been carved into homes, monasteries, and churches for centuries. Along the way, we uncover stories of early Christian communities who sought refuge here, leaving behind richly decorated rock-cut chapels and hidden dwellings.
We stop for lunch on your own during the tour, choosing from local eateries that showcase regional Anatolian flavors. After continuing our exploration, we return to the hotel in the afternoon, giving you time to rest, relax, or simply enjoy the views from your terrace or courtyard.
This evening, we come together one last time for a farewell dinner, celebrating our shared adventure through Turkey’s landscapes, history, and traditions—a fitting close to an extraordinary extension.
Overnight in Göreme.
Please note: The hot-air balloon flight is optional and offered at an additional cost, allowing guests who prefer not to participate to opt out without additional expense.
