The Greece Experience
1. Athens
Athens is your start of your trip. The birth of democracy and many other concepts started right on this hallowed ground, such as theatre, philosophy, and classical Architecture.
Get checked into your centrally located hotel / apartment and have a drink at the roof-top bar before setting out to see the Acropolis, Agora, and so many other sites. Make sure to leave time for a stop at a cafe for great coffee and some local pastries. Greeks are famous for their sweets and we have some great ones to recommend.
Make your way back to the hotel to freshen up and to get ready for the exquisite tavernas that line this area, places where local Greeks go. Most of the dining here is al fresco, outdoors, so that you can enjoy the fresh air as you savor great food.
The night is great for strolling around the shops while the views of the lighted monuments are a sight to behold. Take in the evening before turning in and count this as a great first day!

2. Athens to the Island of Aegina
Today is a good morning to take a walk in the hills surrounding the Acropolis. Make your way up to the "historic rock” to take in the Parthenon. Take all the time you need to explore this monument dating from 447 B.C. Not to be missed is a walk through the Ancient Agora and ending up in the winding streets of Monasteraki, full of wonderful shops and small restaurants. We can recommend some of the best souvlaki that Athens has to offer.
In the afternoon, you can shuttle down to the marina and board your ferry for the island of Aegina, a delightful island nestled in the Saronic Gulf. After checking into your hotel/ villa/ apartment, take a walk to explore the beautiful seaside town. We can recommend a great spot for dinner at a traditional island taverna, well known to the locals.

3. Day Around the Island of Aegina
Aegina is well steeped in history. It was the first place in Ancient Greece that silver coins were minted and there is a spectacular Temple to Aphaia on the backside of the island.
We can recommend the best way to get around so that you can spend the day out and about and visit some of the local beaches for a swim and some lounging.
In the afternoon you might want to get in on a cooking class with a well known local, for an insider look at Greek cooking.

Take your time this morning sleeping in, or get up for a refreshing swim before breakfast; the Aegean sea is right in front of you.
You can take one more trip around the town to shop or have a leisurely coffee while waiting for your fast ferry that will whisk you off to the Island of Poros. A quaint island, just near the Peloponnesian coast. We can recommend either a great hotel in town where the action is or one that is quiet and out of town, right on the sea. Your choice.
Poros is know for its excellent seafood tavernas and we have several to recommend for some great local dishes. This is another island to sit right near the ocean and sip some cocktails later in the day after a great day exploring.

5. Day Trip to the Island of Hydra
No need to pack your bags, as you can leave after breakfast, by fast ferry, for a day trip to the lovely island of Hydra. There are no roads and no cars on Hydra, which has enabled this island to maintain its traditional character, with neoclassical houses amphitheater-like, sweeping up and around the port.
A walk is in order and there great highlights this island has to offer, including a peak at a traditional 'captain's house'. There are great places for lunch right on the quay.
For the more adventurous there are walking trails that take you up above the town for spectacular views. There are also boats that leave regularly for nearby, nearly private, beaches.
You can have your pick of ferries that will return you to Poros in the afternoon.

This is your day to tour of Paros. There are marble mines that in ancient times provided the raw materials for some of the finest statues that we know today (the Medici Venus -Uffizi, Florence and the Nike of Samothrace -Louvre, Paris).
There are hilltop villages where you can stop for a coffee and see immaculate houses and stunning views and also walk the Byzantine trails. There are villages that are still supported by fishing and have excellent tavernas.
There are also great beaches where you can find a lounge chair and cocktail to while away the day. There are also boats to be chartered and even scuba diving guides and equipment. Your choice for a beautiful day!
Paros also has some choice wineries and places where you can get an indepth wine tasting. We'll help get you there.

8. Island of Paros to the Island of Santorini*
After breakfast you can pack our bags and ready yourself for your trip to Santorini, one of the most singular places in all of the Aegean. Whitewashed houses sit clinging to the rim of the caldera, left after the large volcanic eruption of BC 1650.
Since we have traveled for 20+ years to Santorini we know all the best places to stay, from affordable (for Santorini) to some of the most spectacular hotels / villas, we have ever stayed in! We are here to help you curate your best stay.
After checking your bags at your caldera-view hotel, you might want to visit the Prehistoric Museum in Fira. Here you can explore the finds discovered at the site of Akrotiri, some dating 1000 years before the Parthenon. It is interesting to learn about the ancient civilization that once lived here; which some people think was the lost City of Atlantis.
You also will want to visit some of the most exquisite bars that we have had the pleasure to imbibe in. We can help you get there.
There are many options for dinners, from simple to elegant, and we are here to help you steer clear of some less than stellar offering (Santorini can have restaurants and tavernas that run expensive and at the same time provide less than optional food-we can help you steer clear of this).
